**What we're looking for and why we need you!**

We are seeking an experienced Fractional Director of Grants & Institutional Funding to join our team as we scale the reach of our AI-driven platform that provides in real time tailored insights to teachers based on handwritten student work.

EdLight has a product that drives impact, schools that trust us, and a mission that matters. As we grow, we need a thoughtful funding partner who can help us find the right opportunities and turn our work into a sustainable institutional funding strategy and compelling proposals. You'll work closely with EdLight's leadership team to transform existing product, research, implementation, and customer knowledge into compelling funding proposals. We don't expect you to invent our story, we're looking for someone who can uncover it, sharpen it, and tell it in a way that resonates with funders.

This person will help us:

*   Source and qualify aligned funding opportunities
*   Build and maintain a clear grant pipeline
*   Write and project manage grant proposals, LOIs, concept notes, and application materials
*   Translate EdLight's work across product, research, partnerships, and impact into funder-ready narratives
*   Keep our proposal language clear, specific, evidence-based, and deeply human
*   Help us learn from wins, declines, and funder feedback so our grant strategy gets sharper over time

The right person has strong writing instincts, strong judgment, and enough education-sector fluency to understand what matters to funders, schools, teachers, and students.

**Success in this role looks like:**

*   Building and maintaining a healthy pipeline of aligned funding opportunities
*   Delivering high-quality proposals on or ahead of deadline
*   Creating reusable proposal assets that reduce future writing time
*   Helping EdLight submit more competitive applications each quarter
*   Improving proposal quality through continuous learning and iteration

**At EdLight, You Will:**

**Funding opportunity sourcing**

*   Research and identify aligned philanthropic, innovation, education, AI, research, and K-12 funding opportunities
*   Build and maintain a grant pipeline with deadlines, eligibility, award size, funder priorities, and recommended next steps
*   Conduct initial fit assessments and recommend whether EdLight should pursue, pass, or monitor each opportunity
*   Track recurring opportunities, funder cycles, and relationship-building windows
*   Surface opportunities connected to education equity, math achievement, AI for learning, formative assessment, teacher support, research-practice partnerships, and student outcomes
*   Attend funder, grant-related, and field-building events on behalf of EdLight as needed, with an estimated frequency of no more than once per quarter.

**Proposal strategy and writing**

*   Draft LOIs, concept notes, grant narratives, application responses, and supporting materials
*   Adapt EdLight's core story to each funder without making proposals feel generic
*   Translate product, research, implementation, and partner context into clear, compelling language
*   Help shape proposal themes, framing, and evidence based on funder priorities
*   Edit existing proposal materials for clarity, specificity, funder fit, and narrative strength
*   Build reusable language blocks while ensuring each submission still feels tailored

**Grant project management**

*   Own proposal timelines, internal task lists, and submission checklists
*   Coordinate with EdLight team members to gather information, data, budgets, attachments, and partner details
*   Keep drafts organized and easy for the team to review
*   Manage version control and submission requirements
*   Ensure all final materials are complete, polished, and submitted on time

**Learning and iteration**

*   Support lightweight postmortems after submitted, awarded, and declined proposals, as needed
*   Help identify patterns across proposal outcomes
*   Maintain a grant library of strong responses, proof points, attachments, and reusable assets
*   Recommend improvements to EdLight's proposal process over time

**You Are:**

*   An experienced grant writer with experience securing funding from organizations such as private foundations, corporate philanthropy, federal agencies, state education agencies, research funders, or education innovation organizations
*   A strategic thinker who can assess funding opportunities, shape proposal narratives, and identify the strongest angle for each funder
*   A highly organized project manager who can manage multiple deadlines, moving pieces, and internal collaborators
*   Comfortable working with a fast-moving startup team where priorities evolve quickly and context may be messy

**Engagement Structure**

This is a fractional, independent contractor role designed for someone who can own EdLight's grant function with minimal oversight.

**Monthly retainer: $4,000-5,000 depending on experience**

The monthly retainer includes:

*   Proactive grant prospecting and qualification
*   Ongoing grant pipeline management
*   Proposal strategy and narrative development
*   Preparation of grant applications, LOIs, and concept notes as opportunities arise
*   Proposal project management and submission coordination
*   Up to two strategic meetings with EdLight leadership each month
