Fractional CTO

Overview

We are a growing B2B SaaS company with a small distributed team (~10–15 people) serving enterprise customers, agencies, and direct clients. The organization is seeking a senior fractional CTO (about 2–3 days per week) to drive technical strategy, process maturity, and scaling initiatives. This role is critical to transition existing technical leadership into an architecture-focused track, stabilize and optimize development processes, and set a clear roadmap for growth.

Responsibilities

• Meet with the CEO to understand the vision for the developer program and technical roadmap
• Conduct a full audit of existing documentation, product pricing models, and the technical readiness of the platform
• Collaborate with the executive team to create a comprehensive business plan for a developer-facing program, including market sizing, go-to-market approach, monetization/pricing models, impact of scale on costs, resourcing needs, and a phased rollout roadmap
• Benchmark against comparable developer programs and platforms across industries to inform strategy and best practices
• Present the business plan, revenue and cost model, and operating plan to the CEO, CFO, and executive team with actionable recommendations and timelines

Qualifications

• Established senior engineering leader (fractional CTO, CTO, VP Engineering, or equivalent) with a track record of scaling SaaS products and engineering teams
• Experience designing and scaling usage-based product models (metering, tiered/consumption pricing, API rate limits, machine-to-machine tokens, etc.) at scale
• Experience working with large-enterprise procurement and budgeting processes when pricing platform capabilities
• Experience with payment/billing platforms (e.g., Stripe) for metered usage, subscriptions, or platform/connect models is strongly preferred
• Strong business acumen with the ability to translate technical capabilities into a clear, actionable business plan for executive stakeholders
• Hands-on technical credibility with enterprise system architecture, cloud platforms (e.g., AWS), software architecture, global data security, and developer workflows
• Excellent communication skills for frequent interaction with C-level executives and non-technical stakeholders
• Relevant industry experience with enterprise customers is a plus but not required
