Founded in 2008, the Lanaea C. Featherstone Foundation is an award-winning nonprofit with 18 years of consistent, community-driven impact across Maryland.
The Foundation is focused on one mission: expanding access to opportunity. Through education, workforce development, and economic mobility initiatives, it helps first-generation students enter and succeed in higher education, supports families working toward stability, and equips communities with the tools needed to thrive in a changing economy.
The organization is known for turning barriers into pathways—delivering programs that are practical, measurable, and built for long-term change.
To date, the Foundation has awarded nearly $500,000 in 183 scholarships, helping students take the next step toward college access, retention and degree completion. Its broader impact includes hundreds of families served across Maryland, workforce development programming that connects residents to opportunity, and technology access initiatives including laptop distribution to bridge the digital divide.
The Foundation’s work has earned statewide recognition. In 2013, Lanaea Featherstone was awarded an Open Society Institute-Baltimore Community Fellowship for her leadership in immigrant empowerment. In 2016, the Foundation received a Governor’s Citation recognizing its contribution to economic growth and community advancement. Our Executive Director Juliana Lopez was honored by the Daily Record and the Hispanic Chamber for her leadership.
Today, the Featherstone Foundation continues to move with intention and innovation—advancing equity, strengthening communities, and expanding what’s possible for the next generation.
