Interim Marketing Operations Leader
Job Description
Marketing Operations Leader (Director - 8 month Contract)
Location: Remote (Canada)
Employment Type: Contract
Department: Commercial & Marketing
About the role
We're looking for a senior leader to be the operational engine of a creative-heavy marketing organization. You'll own how work gets prioritized, how it moves through the team, and how cross-functional partners stay aligned – turning a high volume of creative and campaign work into a smooth, predictable, well-resourced operation.
This is a senior role for someone who has spent 12 years or more orchestrating the operations of a marketing or creative function. Your superpower is making the whole system run: setting priorities, designing process, coordinating across teams, and stewarding the budget. You'll also be expected to modernize how the team works – including responsibly integrating AI into creative and campaign execution to improve speed and quality without compromising craft.
In this role, you'll:
Roadmap & prioritize: Own intake and prioritization across the marketing and creative team, aligning work with campaign calendars and business goals, and help make the trade-off calls when capacity is tight.
Own systems & tooling: Design and continuously improve how work moves from brief to delivery, own the workflow tooling and playbooks, and integrate AI into the team's workflows responsibly – accelerating production without eroding craft or brand consistency.
Run campaign operations: Maintain a real-time view of what's in flight, what's at risk, and what's coming, so leadership can make informed decisions; and step in to project-manage our biggest integrated campaigns as required.
Manage resources & forecast: Own and forecast the creative and production budgets, plus the team's resourcing and capacity, and manage freelance and creative vendor networks.
Turn insight into action: Own operational insight for the function – throughput, cycle time, capacity, on-time / on-budget delivery – and partner with growth/data to connect creative work to performance (they own the stack; you steer and interpret).
Lead the team: Mentor and support a team of producers and project managers, while fostering a collaborative, sustainable culture.
Skills you'll bring:
Experience: 12+ years in marketing operations, creative ops, or a similar orchestration role within a creative-heavy, high-growth organization.
Operations & campaign track record: Proven success running prioritization, process, and end-to-end campaign operations for a high-volume team, with measurable improvements to how work gets done.
Financial & vendor management: Owning and optimizing budgets and resourcing across concurrent projects, plus sourcing and managing freelance and creative vendor networks.
Tooling & AI fluency: Deep fluency in PM/workflow tools (Asana / Monday / Jira, Airtable, Google Workspace) and creative tools (Figma), plus leadership-level judgment on where AI adds value vs. risk and how to govern it.
Creative partnership: Enough creative and production fluency to earn the trust of designers, producers, and creative leadership.
Leadership temperament: A systems mindset with a bias toward simplification, a maker / owner attitude, strong judgment, clear communication, and comfort navigating ambiguity in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to have experience
Running creative or content production (as a producer, EP, or studio operator) earlier in your career.
Standing up AI-enabled creative or production workflows (e.g. asset generation, automated tagging/versioning, faster creative turnaround).
Driving change management within an established marketing or creative organization.
Working alongside (not necessarily owning) marketing measurement and martech.
