Fractional CFO – Part-Time / Fractional

Location: Sydney, NSW (Remote)

Work Type: Freelance

Compensation: $1,000 - $2,000 per day

What we need help with

The role will include:

• Understanding our true product margins and unit costs, including ingredients, production labour, packaging, fulfilment and other relevant costs
• Identifying our best and worst-performing products, not only by sales but by profitability
• Understanding profitability across e-commerce, retail and B2B/corporate sales channels
• Monitoring labour costs and helping us understand production and staffing efficiency
• Identifying our most valuable customers and corporate accounts
• Monitoring cash flow and maintaining a rolling cash-flow forecast
• Providing visibility over upcoming payroll, superannuation, GST/PAYG, tax and other major financial commitments
• Budgeting, forecasting and comparing actual performance against budget
• Identifying financial issues, trends and opportunities early
• Helping us understand what is driving changes in profitability and cash flow
• Financial modelling for major business decisions

Helping us make better decisions

A key part of this role will be helping the Founder make informed decisions around:

• When we can afford to hire additional staff
• Pricing and product changes
• Where we should focus our sales and marketing efforts
• Equipment and other major investments
• Production capacity
• Whether and when we can afford an additional production facility or location
• Future growth opportunities

We want someone who will proactively tell us what the numbers are showing, what we should be paying attention to and what actions we should consider taking.

What we're looking for

• Previous experience as a CFO, Finance Director, Commercial Finance Manager or Fractional CFO
• Strong Xero experience
• Strong management accounting, budgeting, forecasting and financial modelling skills
• Experience with product margins, unit costing and labour analysis
• Experience working with multi-channel businesses
• Experience in food manufacturing, FMCG, bakery, hospitality, retail, e-commerce or another product-based business is highly desirable
• Ability to communicate financial information clearly to a business owner without unnecessary complexity
• Proactive and comfortable challenging assumptions and identifying issues
• Sydney-based preferred

This is a part-time/fractional engagement, not a full-time CFO position.
