Fractional CFO
Job Description
What you will own
A weekly ecommerce P&L — cash in and out by category: ads, inventory, operations.
A 13-week rolling cash forecast we can actually use before committing to an inventory order or an ad budget.
Margin by channel — subscriptions, one-time purchases and Amazon, each with its own contribution margin, so we know which channel is actually paying for the growth.
Cash conversion cycle reporting, so we know how long our cash is tied up before every purchase.
A subscription revenue model that tells us what we can afford to spend to acquire a customer.
Books we can trust — QuickBooks sorted out, then bookkeeping done to a standard you set and audit. You direct that work, in-house or through a firm; you do not do it yourself.
Two founders who can read their own numbers. Neither of us is a finance person. We want to be.
What this role is not
You will not do manual bookkeeping or run payroll — you will direct and audit whoever does. You recommend budgets; the founders approve spending. We are looking for an advisor who can also build the systems, not a controller, and not someone who needs a finance team behind them to produce anything.
Who we are looking for
You have led finance at a DTC ecommerce brand at eight or nine figures.
You understand subscription businesses — retention, cohorts, and how they set what you can spend on acquisition.
You have managed cash where inventory is paid for long before it sells.
You can explain a model to a non-finance founder in five minutes, and you like doing it.
You are available during US business hours and turn things around quickly.
You have references who can confirm that the companies you helped grow stayed healthy while growing.
What is hard about this
The books are messy. You would be fixing the foundation and building the reporting at the same time, not one after the other.
Priorities change week to week, and the data is never as clean as you would like when a decision is due.
We move quickly and sometimes need decisions made faster than in a traditional company. That occasionally means being available outside normal working hours, including weekends when needed.
You would be building the finance function, not running one. If you are used to having systems and a team already around you, this will feel bare.
The engagement
Type: Contractor, fractional. Long-term by design.
Time: 10–15 hours a week
Compensation: $8,000–12,000 per month, depending on experience
Location: Remote. Availability during US business hours is required; experience with US-based ecommerce companies is preferred.
About the Company
Flow Pouches makes functional mushroom pouches as a clean alternative to nicotine pouches and energy products — no nicotine, no caffeine, no crash. Launched in 2024, the company is a low eight-figure business growing quickly, mostly through subscriptions, and manufactures in the US.
