Fractional Controller
Job Description
Overview
A growing home building company is spinning off its manufacturing division that produces prefabricated building panels for rapid on-site assembly. Operating across multiple states with a strong project pipeline in the coming months, the business needs immediate, hands-on financial operations support to stabilize cash flow, enable the spin-off, and create a scalable financial system during a critical growth phase. The role will operate in a transitional accounting software environment (desktop → online migration and a one-way sync with a construction project management platform) and focus on bringing discipline to billing and day-to-day accounting.
Responsibilities
- Own day-to-day accounts receivable and accounts payable; ensure invoices are accurate and issued on time
- Work with project managers to capture billable items, change orders, and project milestones
- Reconcile and manage data flow between the construction project management platform and the accounting system
- Implement structure and controls in the billing process to resolve cash flow gaps
- Support the financial separation of the building and manufacturing entities during the spin-off
- Operate effectively in a transitional tech environment and support an accounting desktop-to-online migration
- Establish processes and documentation to create a scalable financial system ahead of upcoming projects
Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience as a Controller with day-to-day execution of AR/AP and reconciliations
- Construction and/or manufacturing industry experience strongly preferred
- Proficiency with desktop and online accounting software
- Experience with construction/project management platforms or similar tools is a plus
- Comfortable working in a transitional or imperfect environment and able to bring order to chaos
- Enjoys hands-on operational work (this is not primarily a strategic/CFO-level role initially)
- Remote-friendly and available about 15–25 hours per week
