Remote
What you'll do:
- Strategic Financial Leadership: Provide high-level financial strategy and advisory support to help the firm make proactive business decisions.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Build budgeting and forecasting processes that reflect the realities of a contingency-fee law firm with variable monthly revenue.
- Cash Flow Planning: Help firm leadership understand monthly operating needs, payroll stability, cash flow timing, and the impact of case wins or losses.
- Financial Reporting: Translate existing financial data into clear, digestible, executive-level reports that the firm owner and Office Administrator/Bookkeeper can use for decision-making.
- Profitability Analysis: Analyze operating expenses, profit margins, spending patterns, and opportunities to improve efficiency.
- Scenario Planning: Help leadership plan around revenue variability, major case outcomes, tax considerations, and future financial needs.
- Tax Strategy Coordination: Work with the external CPA firm to identify tax planning opportunities and support more strategic tax-related decision-making.
- Dashboard & KPI Development: Create dashboards, KPIs, or reporting frameworks that give leadership better visibility into firm performance.
- Technology & Process Review: Assess current tools, including Litify, Accounting Seed, Excel, and existing reporting processes, then recommend practical improvements where needed.
- Strategic Partnership: Work directly with the firm owner and Office Administrator/Bookkeeper as the third member of the firm's financial leadership structure.
What we're looking for:
- Fractional CFO Experience: Prior experience as a Fractional CFO or senior finance leader advising business owners, ideally small to medium size law firms.
- Plaintiff Contingency-Fee Understanding: Strong preference for experience with plaintiff-side contingency-fee law firms or professional services businesses with variable revenue.
- Strategic Finance Expertise: Strong background in financial strategy, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow modeling, profitability analysis, and executive reporting.
- Executive Communication: Ability to explain financial information clearly, translate data into recommendations, and help leadership make proactive decisions.
- High Integrity & Discretion: Able to handle confidential financial information with professionalism and trustworthiness.
- Data-Driven Mindset: Comfortable working with clean financial data and turning it into practical business insight.
- Tool Familiarity: Experience with Excel and financial reporting tools required; familiarity with Litify and Accounting Seed is strongly preferred but not required.
- Advisory Orientation: Best suited for someone who enjoys strategic advisory work rather than transactional bookkeeping or routine accounting tasks.
- Fractional Fit: Must be comfortable with a true fractional engagement of approximately 10–15 hours per month, with potentially more involvement during onboarding.
Why you should work here:
- Strategic Influence: Engage in a role that offers significant strategic influence and an opportunity to shape the financial direction of the firm.
- Direct Partnership: Collaborate directly with firm leadership to drive impactful financial strategies.
- Flexible Engagement: Enjoy the flexibility of a fractional role designed to accommodate other professional pursuits.
- Growth Opportunity: Leverage clean, reliable financial data to quickly add value and make measurable impacts.
Additional perks:
- Remote Work: The position is fully remote, allowing flexibility and work-life balance.
- Retainer Compensation: Structured as a monthly retainer for defined hours, offering stable and predictable income.
- Professional Network: Access to referrals through a vast network of law firms, enhancing career opportunities.
- Competitive Pay: Compensation tailored to market standards for fractional CFO roles.
