Fractional Controller

Role Description

The fractional Controller role is a remote, contract position responsible for overseeing Sifted's financial operations and ensuring accurate, timely reporting. Day-to-day responsibilities include managing the general ledger, supervising month-end and year-end close, preparing financial statements, and maintaining internal controls and accounting policies. The Controller will review budgets and forecasts, monitor cash flow, and analyze variances to support leadership in data-driven decision-making. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to streamline financial processes, support compliance and audits, and help refine financial systems as the company scales. The fractional Controller will also provide guidance on financial best practices and help optimize profitability and operational efficiency.

Qualifications

• Strong skills in financial accounting, general ledger management, and preparation of financial statements.
• Experience with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow analysis, and variance analysis.
• Proficiency with accounting software and ERP systems; advanced Excel skills (e.g., financial modeling, complex formulas).
• Knowledge of GAAP, internal controls, and compliance requirements; experience supporting audits.
• Background in controller-level or senior accounting roles, ideally in multi-site, service, or food-related businesses.
• Ability to work independently in a remote environment, manage multiple priorities, and collaborate effectively with non-finance teams.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, with attention to detail and a process-improvement mindset.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification is strongly preferred.
