Senior Data Engineer
Position Summary
PCCI is seeking a Senior Data Engineer for a contract-to-hire opportunity. This hands-on technical leadership role is ideal for an experienced data professional who excels at building scalable data solutions and supporting advanced analytics initiatives in a healthcare environment.
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining enterprise data pipelines, data warehouse solutions, and database environments that support AI, machine learning, business intelligence, and population health initiatives. You will work with complex healthcare datasets, including claims, clinical, and social determinants of health data, ensuring they are accurately ingested, transformed, modeled, and optimized for advanced analytics and operational use.

Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop high-performance, scalable data models and database structures to support enterprise-wide analytics and business needs.
- Build, maintain, and optimize ETL processes to ensure data quality, consistency, and integrity.
- Develop and manage robust data pipelines for healthcare and population health applications.
- Configure, administer, and monitor database environments from development through production.
- Ensure database performance, availability, reliability, and security.
- Support release deployments and scheduled maintenance activities, including occasional after-hours support.
- Collaborate with stakeholders, analysts, data scientists, and application developers to deliver effective data solutions.
- Assist development teams with query optimization, database functions, indexing strategies, and performance tuning.
- Support High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) initiatives.
- Recommend and implement improvements to data processes, architecture, and governance practices.
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Engineering, or a related engineering field preferred.
- Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training will be considered.
Experience
- Minimum of 3 years of Data Engineering, Database Administration, or related experience.
- Extensive experience with ETL development and data integration.
- Experience designing and building enterprise data pipelines and data models.
- Experience working with high-performance database environments.
- Knowledge of database administration, indexing, and performance optimization techniques.
- Experience supporting High Availability (HA) and Disaster Recovery (DR) environments.
- Experience working in cloud environments, preferably Microsoft Azure.
- Understanding database security concepts, tools, and best practices.
- Healthcare, life sciences, or population health experience preferred.
Technical Skills
- Advanced SQL programming expertise.
- Strong understanding of data modeling and enterprise database concepts.
- Experience with reporting and visualization tools such as Power BI or Tableau.
- Working knowledge of Python or a similar programming language.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Microsoft Azure and SQL Server certifications are a plus.
