Founding COO / Head of Operations [Full-Time]

Healthcare Operations CompanyPosted 24 days ago

Job Description

Please note, this is a full time role.

The organization is a fast-moving, high-impact startup combining software with human advocates to guide patients through diagnoses, bills, and care plans. As the organization scales, it needs a senior, hands-on operator to build the systems that let care scale without losing the human touch.

Role: Founding COO / Head of Operations — remote (leadership team meets regionally for periodic in-person meetings)

Type: Full-time (open to contract-to-hire) — hands-on, executive team member, doer in the age of AI

Comp: Competitive salary + equity (compensation track varies)

Why this role exists: Growth only works if the patient and customer experience stays exceptional and there is an operational backbone to deliver consistently. You’ll own the connective tissue between advocates, payers, and leadership — ensuring no patient falls through the cracks, no credentialing deadline slips, and no operational ball is dropped. This is not a “manage people from a distance” role: you’ll roll up your sleeves, fix broken workflows yourself, and bring back lessons that make the organization faster, cleaner, and more scalable.

Responsibilities

  • Own end-to-end operational efficiency and profitability targets; scale revenue and improve margins to support high-growth objectives.
  • Drive company-wide operational efficiency, sizing impact and realizing value across functions.
  • Manage provider credentialing, payer enrollment, and ongoing compliance; keep contracts, licenses, and provider records audit-ready.
  • Run day-to-day HR, operations, finance, and compliance functions and translate operational insights into product and strategy recommendations.
  • Coordinate across advocates, providers, and payers to resolve bottlenecks quickly and ensure seamless patient journeys.
  • Set operational priorities in lockstep with the founding team and act as the operational glue across the organization.
  • Build, document, and own repeatable workflows for billing, scheduling, intake, and revenue cycle operations.
  • Spot operational inefficiencies and fix them rapidly — implement durable processes after solving problems hands-on.
  • Monitor patient and partner touchpoints to ensure a high-quality, consistent experience; close the loop on dropped calls, delayed follow-ups, or missed handoffs.
  • Track and report KPIs across credentialing, throughput, revenue cycle, and patient satisfaction; drive investor-facing reporting and board-level operational narratives.
  • Own payer contracting and credentialing initiatives, including value realization from payer relationships and contract management.
  • Be hands-on in training, development, and clinical workforce management to sustain top-tier quality of care.

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in healthcare operations at a startup, clinic, or provider network (direct hands-on experience preferred).
  • Direct experience with provider credentialing and payer enrollment — not just managing others doing it.
  • Data-driven: able to size problems, be honest about when things break, and define measurable fixes and impact.
  • AI-native mindset — comfortable adopting and building workflows that leverage AI across operations.
  • Proven ability to thrive in high-ambiguity, high-velocity environments and prioritize decisively.
  • Hands-on, execution-driven operator who will solve problems directly and then build processes to prevent recurrence. This is not a typical 9-to-5 role.
  • Excellent communicator across diverse stakeholders — from senior patients to health plan contracting leads.
  • Comfortable owning cross-functional HR, operations, finance, and compliance responsibilities and partnering as a peer with the CEO/founding team.

Bonus points:

  • Experience working with Medicare or Medicaid populations.
  • Experience taking a company from seed to later-stage growth.
  • Prior experience as a close operational partner to a founder or executive team in a high-growth healthcare organization.
