Backend Developer
As a Backend Developer, you will be responsible for managing the interchange of data between the server and the users. Your primary focus will be the development of all server-side logic, definition, and maintenance of the central database, and ensuring high performance and responsiveness to requests from the frontend. You will also be responsible for integrating the frontend elements built by your coworkers into the application. A basic understanding of frontend technologies is therefore necessary as well.
To ensure success as a Backend Developer, you should have excellent programming skills and a passion for developing applications or improving existing ones. Top-class Backend Developers are able to develop clean and efficient code, contributing to the overall success of the team and product.
Supervisory Responsibilities: No. This job does not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain server-side logic, ensuring high performance and responsiveness.
- Collaborate with frontend developers to integrate user-facing elements with server-side logic.
- Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code.
- Design and optimize database schemas, queries, and indexes.
- Implement security and data protection measures.
- Develop and deploy RESTful APIs to support frontend functionality.
- Troubleshoot, debug, and upgrade existing software.
- Conduct unit tests and optimize performance.
- Participate in the entire application lifecycle, focusing on coding and debugging.
- Collaborate with team members to determine best practices and client requirements for software.
- Stay up-to-date with current best practices, emerging technologies, and frameworks.
- Document development processes, coding guidelines, and best practices.
- Provide training and support to junior developers.
- Other duties may be assigned by supervisor.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Backend Developer or similar role.
- Proficiency in backend languages such as Java, Python, Ruby, or PHP.
- Experience with databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, or similar.
- Experience with server, network, and hosting environments.
- Familiarity with RESTful APIs and web services.
- Knowledge of security and data protection practices.
- Strong understanding of the web development cycle and programming techniques and tools.
- Excellent problem-solving and debugging skills.
- Good understanding of frontend technologies (e.g., HTML, CSS, JavaScript) for seamless integration.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Must have valid US identification for FTE roles.
- Must be able to successfully pass a background screen test.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with cloud services such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure.
- Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes.
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD) practices.
- Knowledge of microservices architecture.
- Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies.
- Experience with version control systems like Git.

Contract with the option for full-time based on location.
