Nick is a hands-on operations and growth leader who genuinely loves helping businesses get out of their own way. With a background spanning finance, logistics, and entrepreneurship, he's spent his career building the kind of systems, teams, and infrastructure that let founders focus on what they do best.
Nick founded and bootstrapped Arthur + Lucca, along with several spin-off brands, and has partnered with dozens of entrepreneurs to help them move from early-stage chaos to sustainable, scalable …
Problem: A language education company with a distributed international team was facing significant financial distress, an empty sales funnel, no incoming revenue, and a complete collapse of its existing sales model. The business needed immediate stabilization while simultaneously executing a full strategic and operational rebuild.

In 2016, Nick opened a second Arthur + Lucca location in Manhattan, bringing the brand's custom clothing and alterations experience to one of the most competitive retail markets in the world. Within a year, he had hired and developed a team capable of running the location completely independently — and within two years, the store was generating over $1M in annual revenue without Nick needing to be in the room. It's one of the clearest examples of how Nick operates: build it right, hire great people, and create something that doesn't need you to thrive.
When the world shut down in 2020, Nick pivoted his core business and launched Chicago Made Masks in seven days — building a fully functioning Shopify store, logistics system, and shipping operation from scratch. He scaled the team to 30+ people and generated over $550K in revenue in just 30 days. A real-world test of what Nick does best: build systems that work under pressure, lead teams through uncertainty, and execute without losing speed.
Nick built Nursling.co's entire e-commerce foundation — a complete Shopify store with 45+ product pages, polished checkout, photography coordination, and an influencer network of 30+ commission-based partners. He also handled financials, manufacturing partnerships, and scalable logistics from day one. From concept to conversion, he made sure the platform, people, and process all worked together seamlessly.
Nick founded NearWest Studio, a boutique digital agency helping founders go from idea to launch — offering custom websites, branding, scalable workflows, and go-to-market strategy, all delivered with clarity and speed. He worked closely with each founder to make sure they had a real foundation to build on, not just a pretty website.
Fractional CEO
May 2026 - Present
Stepped in as Fractional CEO during a period of significant financial and operational distress — assuming full decision-making authority and leading a simultaneous turnaround and rebuild of a language education company with a distributed international team. Stabilized the organization through transparent leadership, structured creditor management, and a consistent communication cadence across all team segments. Diagnosed the collapse of the existing sales model and designed a complete pivot to a self-serve e-commerce platform — launching a new Shopify storefront, redesigning the product architecture, building a subscription retention product, and launching an affiliate program. Rebuilt the entire brand, website, and customer-facing infrastructure from scratch while managing a complex international legal dispute with a European distribution partner.
Fractional CEO + Owner
Aug 2013 - Present
I bootstrapped Arthur + Lucca from the ground up, growing it to over $12M in total revenue since inception. I've interviewed 400+ candidates, hired and managed more than 80 employees, and built a team and operational infrastructure capable of running the business independently. I created a premium custom clothing experience across menswear, womenswear, ready-to-wear, and alterations, while also building a B2B channel serving corporate clients and professional organizations.
Fractional Director of Operations
May 2021 - Jun 2026
Nick leads full-cycle recruiting strategy at DeftDCM, helping the company scale across data center operations and technical infrastructure. Beyond talent, he played a key role in organizing and standing up the business itself — building the company website, setting up all company emails, and implementing cloud-based document management to keep the team connected and running efficiently. He also authored SOPs covering expenses, code of conduct, and acceptable use, giving the company a clear operational foundation to grow from. On the talent side, he built the recruiting function from scratch, aligning workforce planning with executive leadership and putting data-driven processes in place that improved hiring speed, quality, and overall organizational scalability.
Strategic Account Manager
Oct 2009 - Jul 2013
I joined C.H. Robinson and hit the ground running in an industry I'd never worked in before — translating my experience as an options market maker into a natural understanding of freight brokerage. I challenged myself to master in under six months what typically takes new hires two years to learn, with the goal of making an immediate impact and stepping into a leadership role as quickly as possible. In the role I worked with a wide range of stakeholders — clients, internal counterparts, sales teams, warehouse personnel, and over-the-road truck drivers — building the kind of cross-functional fluency that defined my approach to the account.
Junior Options Trader
May 2008 - Sep 2009
Fresh out of college, I joined a grain options trading group and helped lead junior traders through one of the most volatile periods in financial history — the 2008 financial crisis. Trading across both open-outcry and electronic markets, I contributed to managing multi-nine-figure positions spanning hundreds of strikes and multiple years.
