Fractional Controller

A growing distribution business seeks a hands-on Fractional Controller to lead and build its finance function. This part-time engagement will provide oversight of core accounting operations, improve month-end close and reporting, advance automation within the organization’s ERP platform, and support the development of accounting staff. The company is also looking to use automation and AI to reduce manual work.

Responsibilities

• Own day-to-day finance operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and month-end close
• Build and document finance processes, internal controls, and reporting cadence
• Improve and automate workflows within the ERP platform; identify and implement automation and AI opportunities
• Prepare and deliver timely financial reports, cash forecasts, and KPIs to leadership
• Partner with Operations and Sales to support accurate billing, costing, and inventory accounting
• Recruit, mentor, and manage accounting hires as needed
• Support audits, tax preparers, and external advisors as required
• Act as the primary finance leader until or if the role converts to a full-time hire

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a Controller or senior accounting leader, with hands-on finance operations experience
• Strong experience with ERP platforms and a demonstrated ability to implement automation
• Background in distribution or manufacturing accounting preferred
• Track record of building processes, controls, and small finance teams
• Strong communication skills and ability to partner with cross-functional leaders
• Availability to start in the near term; open to regional proximity for on-site engagement as needed
