Happy news! Our #RisingFoodStars startup Onego Bio has completed a massive $40M Series A funding round to scale their technology!! 👏

“Eggs are an essential part of #FoodBusinesses, but with the egg market constantly fluctuating due to avian flu and increased demand for cage-free, manufacturers are challenged to find a viable replacement with a consistent, reliable, and safe supply of high-quality protein at an accessible price,” says ‌Jim Mellon, Executive Chairman and co-founder of Agronomics Limited. "A long-term sustainable solution for chicken eggs is needed".

#EggAlternatives be on par with eggs in terms of taste, texture, costs — and more! ‌With their innovative ingredient Bioalbumen®, Onego Bio is setting a new standard for #ProteinDiversification. 🥚

Congratulations to Maija Itkonen, Christopher Landowski, and the entire Onego Bio team. 🎉🌟

Every aspect of how we produce, source, and consume food has ripple effects on the environment, economy, and even our own health. 🔄

From enhancing soil health to rebuilding consumer trust. 🌱

From educating and mobilising youth toward healthier eating habits, to engaging authorities at all levels. 💼

From financing top innovators to encouraging #ProteinDiversification beyond animal-based protein. 💡

Last year, our #FutureFood23 Conference showed how the players in the food sector are embracing a shift towards a science-based approach for future policy initiatives and acknowledging that there is no one-size-fits-all solution for our #FoodSystems.

How can we make change happen in our food systems fast and inclusively, bringing everyone along? 🌍

#FutureOfFood #ImprovingFoodTogether

Which foods have the largest impact on #ClimateChange❓ On average, meat & dairy have the biggest climate footprint per gram of protein, while plant-based foods tend to have the smallest impact. 👇🌍🌱

With the need to develop healthier and more #SustainableFood products, the introduction of new foods could be key to the transformation of our #FoodSystem.

Although European diets vary from region to region and household to household, innovation is accelerating and new food ingredients are entering the European market. Could novel foods help to create a future-fit food system in Europe? 🍏

#FutureOfFood #ImprovingFoodTogether

“You've got a real opportunity to completely rethink business models in the food system when you start to talk to amazing entrepreneurs and evangelists who've gone out on a limb, bet their careers and their mortgages and their families on making a change in the world. Those are the super, super brave people that are absolutely on the front line of what we're doing and they open doors to so many possibilities,” said EIT Food’s new CEO, Richard Zaltzman, in this episode of the #EITFoodFight 👊 podcast: https://lnkd.in/d-v3-MqT

In a wide-ranging conversation with podcast host Matt Eastland, Richard describes his personal journey to #agrifood leadership and what he views as the biggest challenges in the #FoodSystem.

Looking to the future, he discusses transformative ideas and novel business models, and how everybody can be part of the journey towards #RegenerativeFoodSystems. At the heart of Richard’s approach is the concept of #RegenerativeLeadership, which can create the culture for tackling systemic issues within the food system. 🌍

#ImprovingFoodTogether #FutureOfFood

A shift towards a more sustainable #FoodSystem could create up to $10tn (€ 9.2tn) of benefits a year, improve human health and ease the climate crisis (Food System Economics Commission).

Food systems put the world on course for 2.7C of warming by the end of the century. This creates a vicious cycle with hidden environmental and medical costs, as higher temperatures bring more extreme weather and greater damage to harvests, aggravating food insecurity.

Financial incentives should be directed towards #RegenerativeAgriculture and smallholders who could turn farms into carbon sinks with more space for wildlife.

Transitioning towards a #RegenerativeFoodSystems can be politically challenging but bring huge welfare benefits. It can create an economy where everyone thrives. 🌾

What other benefits come to mind? Let us know below 👇🏽

#ImprovingFoodTogether #FutureOfFood

According to the FAO, only 5% of leadership positions in the #agrifood sector are held by women. Our South Director Begoña Pérez Villarreal is one of them!: https://lnkd.in/d9T_jHfr

Begoña has been selected as one of the #Top10Women2024 by Startup Europe Smart Agrifood Summit for bringing great value to the sector with her commitment & hard work. 👏

4evergreen is an alliance of over 100 manufacturers, designers, brand owners, researchers, and recyclers who are committed to creating a climate-neutral society by enhancing the circularity and sustainability of fibre-based packaging. With fibre-based packaging, such as paper cups and cardboard boxes, representing around 38% of all packaging in Europe, the alliance focuses on packaging types used for household, out-of-home, and on-the-go consumption with lower circularity performance. Innovation lies at the core of this alliance as members work together to accelerate the development of new technologies that address sorting and recycling challenges. 4evergreen has set four targets to achieve by 2025 on their path to a 90% recycling rate for fibre-based packaging by 2030. These targets include the recognition and adoption of their recyclability evaluation protocol and circularity design guidelines by the industry, availability of separate collection streams for all fibre-based packaging types, sorting of collected paper according to specified standards, and achieving 100% recycling of collected fibre-based packaging. To achieve these targets, the alliance operates through technical workstreams focused on recyclability evaluation, circularity design guidelines, collection and sorting best practices, and innovation. Regular meetings and a dedicated secretariat ensure effective coordination and progress towards their goals.
